Putting a Stop to Property Tax Penalties Was Just the First Step

Texas Property Tax Protest Services

As a Simplicite Tax Loans customer, you can receive professional Texas property tax protest services at no upfront cost.

A property tax loan helps resolve delinquent taxes. The next step is making sure you aren’t paying more than you should in the future.

Through our partnership with Home Tax Shield, eligible customers can have their property professionally reviewed and protested when appropriate.

What Is a Property Tax Protest?

A property tax protest is the process of challenging the appraised value assigned to your property by your local Texas appraisal district. Since your property taxes are based on that value, successfully lowering your appraisal can reduce the amount you owe in property taxes. Many Texas homeowners don’t realize they have the legal right to protest their property’s value every year if they believe it’s inaccurate or unfair.

Property Taxes are Based on Appraised Value

That value is determined by the appraisal district

The Appraisal District Makes Mistakes

Unfortunately, it’s more common than you think

The Only Way to Fix It Is to Protest

If successful, the appraiser will lower your appraised value

A Lower Appraisal Means a Lower Tax Bill

In simple terms, that’s ultimately how you save money

You Should Protest Your Property Taxes Every Year

It’s the only way to ensure that you’re being taxed fairly.

Even if you protested last year, it’s worth reviewing your property’s value again. Appraisal districts reassess properties annually, and changing market conditions or property-specific factors could create another opportunity to lower your tax bill.

You Can Do It Yourself, But There’s a Catch

Protesting your property taxes is your right, but it isn’t easy

Preparation Can Be Cumbersome

The time and effort that it takes can be overwhelming

Few Actually Know How to Do It

You only get one try, so it’s best to let a professional make sure it’s done right

How to Protest Property Taxes in Texas

Texas homeowners can file a property tax protest themselves or choose professional representation. While the process is straightforward on paper, preparing strong evidence, understanding deadlines, and presenting a compelling case can make a significant difference in the outcome. That’s why many homeowners choose experienced property tax professionals to represent them.

What Do I Need to Protest My Property Taxes?

The evidence needed depends on your property, but successful protests often include:

  • Comparable home sales
  • Photos showing property condition
  • Repair estimates
  • Independent appraisals
  • Evidence that similar homes are valued lower
  • Market data supporting a lower valuation

Professional property tax consultants know how to organize this information to build the strongest possible case.
